INTELENCE (etravirine) Dosing and Administration
One tablet twice a day
- The recommended oral dose of INTELENCE for treatment-experienced adult patients with resistance to NNRTIs and other ARVs is 200 mg (one 200-mg tablet) taken twice daily following a meal. The type of food does not affect the exposure to INTELENCE
- 100-mg tablets are still available. The dose is 200 mg (two 100-mg tablets) of INTELENCE twice daily
- INTELENCE must be taken with other ARV agents

INTELENCE may be dispersed in water for patients unable to swallow tablets whole
- Place one 200-mg tablet in a glass of water
- Stir well until the water looks milky, then drink immediately
- Rinse glass with water several times and completely swallow the rinse each time to ensure complete dosing
No dose adjustments are necessary in…
- Patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment
(Child-Pugh Class A or B) - Patients co-infected with hepatitis B and/or C virus
- Patients with renal impairment
INTELENCE is classified as Pregnancy Category B
- INTELENCE should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. No adequate and well-controlled studies of INTELENCE use in pregnant women have been conducted
Selected Important Safety Information
- Hepatic Impairment: INTELENCE should be used with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class C) as pharmacokinetics of INTELENCE have not been evaluated in these patients
- Drug Interactions
- INTELENCE should not be coadministered with the following ARVs: atazanavir/ritonavir, fosamprenavir/ritonavir, tipranavir/ritonavir, full-dose ritonavir (600 mg bid), protease inhibitors administered without low-dose ritonavir, and other NNRTIs
- INTELENCE should not be coadministered with carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, rifampin, rifapentine, rifabutin (when part of a regimen containing protease inhibitor/ritonavir) or products containing St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) (please click here for more details)
